Satanicpornocultshop have changed a lot since the hip hop bricolage of Ugh Yoing (2002) and the disrespectful aggression of Zap Meemees (2005). Their style has developed into something subtler, more self-assured, more cinematographic, slicker. Ugh's constructivist magic is operating marvellously: he brings together tangible sounds, crinkly rhythms and incongruous samples, making for a very nicely produced set of 17 electronic tracks. Note also that there are a few surprise guests, such as Philippe Beaudoing, alias Mr Eardrum and some nice discoveries, such as the Norwegian group, Koppen (Frederik Andreas Larsen) or the German musician Vernon LeNoir. Special mention goes to the very dancey track 'Boing Boom Tschak' (with Ugh's daughter on the mic), the deadly cover of 'It's Not Unusual' by Tom Jones, sung by the delicious Lisa Tani and the simply scintillating 'Je Viens Avec Toi'. Résolument plus souple, le style de Satanicpornocultshop a beaucoup évolué depuis le hip hop bricolage de l’album Ugh Yoing (2002) et de l’agressivité irrespectueuse de Zap Meemees (2005), vers une écriture beaucoup plus posée, plus cinématographique, plus léchée. Satanicpornocultshop es un conglomerado de artistas sonoros y visuales que tuvo su origen a finales de los años 90, alrededor del sello Nunulaxnulan. El sello Nunulaxnulan fue creado por ellos mismos con el único objeto de publicar sus discos. El líder del grupo se hace llamar Ugh y es fotógrafo a la par que mesa de mezclas humana. Su especialidad es el sampleado de “sonidos basura”. Pero sigue siendo un proyecto colectivo. Hip hop futurista, le dicen. La proyección de Satanicpornocultshop ha sido siempre internacional, muy europea: colaboraciones con músicos y galerías de arte a lo largo y ancho del viejo continente, discos a través de sellos como el francés Sonore (casa de Oorutaichi) y una larga serie de actuaciones en festivales electro-rarunos, sin ir más lejos el Experimentaclub. Es algo sorprendente que el noise japonés se traduzca tan bien a otros idiomas y otras regiones, mientras que el indie más tradicional parece a menudo ininteligible. The release is called “Catholic Sunspot Apron” and features many other interesting artists such as MC Frosen Pine and Vernon LeNoir.
